A horrific fire swept through Minnesota's oldest and according to a recent list “Most Romantic” getaway resorts.

Tragically, Lutsen Resort sustained major fire damage early Tuesday.

Sometime around 12:30 in the morning on Tuesday fire crews were called to the resort as a fire was raging through the main building.

Edward Vanegas, the Lutsen Resort General Manager was quoted as saying,

our beloved Lutsen Resort The Historic Lutsen Lodge has been taken by a devastating fire….fires in 1949, 1951 and now 2024…. me and casey were brought up to the North Shore of MN to manage this historic lodge 5 years ago. .. we have lost part of our family…our time here has changed".

 

Care 11 News is reporting that "Fire crews from Lutsen, Tofte, Grand Marais and a number of other local departments rushed to the scene and found the lodge building engulfed by flames. All staff members made it out, and the sheriff's department reports there were no guests on site."

According to their website, "Lutsen Resort is Minnesota’s oldest resort. Established in 1885, the rugged natural beauty of Lake Superior’s North Shore prompted Charles Axel Nelson, a young Swedish immigrant, to establish his homestead overlooking the lake. He called it “Lutsen.”
