How Safe Is Minnesota? The State Just Made This Top 10 List
Minnesota has earned a top spot among the safest states in America, according to a new ranking.
WalletHub compared all 50 states using 52 different safety-related indicators.
The measurements were divided into five major categories: personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness.
Minnesota came in at No. 8 overall, giving the state a place in the top 10 for the latest ranking.
The state received particularly strong marks for road safety, ranking second in the nation for having among the fewest traffic fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. Minnesota also ranked fifth for financial safety.
There were a few areas where Minnesota didn't score quite as well. The state ranked 23rd in personal and residential safety and 23rd in emergency preparedness.
Even so, its strong performance in other categories was enough to put Minnesota ahead of several other Midwestern states.
For comparison, Iowa ranked No. 12, Wisconsin came in at No. 19, North Dakota was No. 25, and South Dakota ranked No. 35.
The top five safest states were Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Utah. At the bottom of the list were Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
