Don’t Miss Total Lunar Eclipse Over Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota
A spectacular, rare “Blood Moon” total lunar eclipse is coming to the night skies of Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota!
A total lunar eclipse, or "blood moon," will occur on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, marking it the only one of the year and the last one visible from North America until 2028.
This total lunar eclipse has a magnitude of 1.14, meaning the Moon will be completely covered by Earth's shadow at maximum eclipse, with totality lasting nearly 57 minutes.
During that window, Earth's atmosphere filters sunlight, scattering blue wavelengths while allowing red to pass through, illuminating the Moon in an eerie, rusty red glow of the “Blood Moon”.

For observers in the Central Time zone, the Moon will be low in the western sky when totality begins, so finding a clear view of the western horizon is key.
The best part? Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are completely safe to observe with the naked eye; you don’t need special glasses or equipment.
Just step outside, look west, and enjoy the show.
This will be the first total lunar eclipse visible in the Americas since March 2025, making it a rare and memorable occasion.
