We all have stress in our lives. It's just the nature of living on this planet with all of the things going on in our world.

However, some places have more stressful environments than others. That's the whole reason behind this latest study from the scientific number-crunchers at Wallet Hub.

They compared 182 of the largest cities in the U.S. to find the most and least stressed cities in the country.

They also looked into a survey by the American Psychological Association, which indicated that 77% of Americans are stressed about the future of our country, and 73% are stressed about the economy.

The good news for us in Sioux Falls is that we showed up near the bottom of this Wallet Hub stress study. Showing up in 180th place on this list of cities means that there are only two other cities feeling less stress than we do in Sioux Falls.

Here are the Five Least Stressed Cities in the U.S.:

  1. South Burlington, Vermont
  2. Fremont, California
  3. Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  4. Irvine, California
  5. Burlington, Vermont

And - here are the Five Most Stressed Cities in the U.S.

  1. Detroit, Michigan
  2. Cleveland, Ohio
  3. Baltimore, Maryland
  4. Gulfport, Mississippi
  5. Memphis, Tennessee

How did they get these results?

There were four categories of stress in this study: Work, Financial, Family, and Health & Safety.

Within those categories, they considered things like:

  • Average weekly work hours
  • Job security
  • Traffic congestion
  • Unemployment rates
  • Job satisfaction
  • Median annual household income
  • Foreclosure and poverty rates
  • Housing affordability
  • Child care costs
  • Mental health
  • ...much more
