Kylie Minogue Reportedly Signing New Record Deal for 2017 Comeback
One week after Kylie Minogue confirmed plans to record a pop record next year (and possibly even tour), rumors are growing steadily louder surrounding a massive comeback of the Impossible Princess in 2017.
According to Dan Wootton's gossip column in The Sun (take it with a grain of salt as always), the "All The Lovers" goddess is "in talks to sign a huge new record deal," reportedly switching from Parlophone to BMG UK, thanks to her old boss Jamie Nelson, who co-signed her to Parlophone Records in 1999.
"I can reveal Kylie, who also split from Jay Z’s Roc Nation management last year, is in talks to sign a huge new record deal with BMG UK after Jamie, who is now A&R director there, persuaded her to join him instead of Universal following a massive bidding war," Wootton writes.
The news comes at the same time as Kylie's recent interview with the Evening Standard (also, can we talk about that Sunday Times cover?), in which she doubled down on those album plans for 2017.
"I just want to make good music, music that people can have as part of their life. If I can just stick with that, that’s a good place," she said. "Instead of thinking ‘how does the music industry work and how do I fit into it?’ I just want to do what I do.”
She even supplied the tiniest hint of what's to come sonically — and even though she's unconcerned with following the moves of the industry, she might just end up on-trend anyway with the downtempo sound of radio.
"What’s worked well for me in the past is pop dance, obviously, melodies, emotional themes. I think most people think of my songs as joyful. But it doesn’t have to be just about joy — it can be sparkling melancholy — I don’t think I’ve ever used those words together before, I’m going to use it! And a slice of the unexpected, which we did with something like [2003 hit] 'Slow.'”
"Sparkling melancholy"? Already sold.
Here's to an album's worth of something in between "Confide In Me," "Where The Wild Roses Grow," "The One," her Sleepwalker and Kylie + Faribay collaborations and Kiss Me Once's criminally underrated "Sleeping With The Enemy."
