This is Now Minnesota’s Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dish

While turkey may still be the star of the show at Thanksgiving, we now know just which side dish is the favorite here in Minnesota.

The Thanksgiving holiday is a uniquely American tradition, filled with tons of food and a gathering together with family and friends as we express our gratitude. According to the National Archives Museum, the First Thanksgiving was held back in 1621 near Plymouth, Massachusetts 'to mark a successful harvest' that year.

If it seems like Thanksgiving is late this year, you're right-- it is. The Farmers' Almanac notes that since 1941, Thanksgiving has been held on the fourth Thursday in November. And with the holiday falling on Thursday, Nov. 28th this year, that makes it the latest date possible for Thanksgiving.

This means will all have to wait nearly a week longer this year to sink our teeth into all that amazing Thanksgiving food. But in addition to the turkey and all those amazing side dishes that will grace many tables across the Land of 10,000 Lakes this Thanksgiving, just *which* one is our favorite?

That's the question the crew over at online-casinos.com set out to answer. They surveyed 2,500 Americans from all 50 states and asked them about their favorite Thanksgiving side dishes. They then compiled these answers into a comprehensive list of each state's favorites.

And here in the Bold North, we join 15 other states including New York, Louisiana, and Washington who said our favorite Thanksgiving side dish was... stuffing! (And btw, Delish.com says the difference between stuffing and dressing is where it's cooked: Stuffing is cooked inside the turkey, while dressing is usually baked or roasted in a separate dish.)

According to the online-casinos.com survey here's what respondents said about stuffing:

While some might call it dressing (weird), stuffing is here to stay. Whether it’s packed into the turkey and soaked in juices, baked to herby, crispy perfection in a casserole dish, or slightly sweet and made from cornbread in the South, nearly a third of those we surveyed can’t let Thanksgiving go by without a hearty helping of stuffing (or four).

While it was number one here in the North Star State, stuffing wasn't *the* most popular Thanksgiving side dish overall, however. That honor goes to 'the undisputed king of sides': mashed potatoes. A total of 19 states, including Wisconsin, California, and Nebraska all crowned this carb-loaded, buttery masterpiece as their favorite side dish, the online-casinos.com survey said.

Meanwhile, another favorite side dish of mine-- macaroni and cheese-- was listed as the favorite Thanksgiving side dish in 8 different states, though curiously NOT in my home state of Wisconsin (which as we noted above, voted for mashed potatoes instead.)
