Enjoy another warm October week in Minnesota. We could have easily had snow by now, but instead we're getting an extended summer. So we thought we'd remind you of what will be in our future sooner than later.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in Minnesota is just the seventh coldest temp  ever in the U.S. That record belongs to Prospect Creek, Alaska where it hit -80 on January 20, 1971. Here are the ten coldest temps ever recorded in Minnesota history.

The coldest temp ever recorded in the lower 48 is -70˚ on January 20, 1970 at Rogers Pass, Montana.

Those temps above don't even take any wind into account. I mean, imagine what a ten mile per hour breeze would do with an air temperature of -50. In case you're actually wondering, that could create a wind chill of nearly eighty below!

So, yes -- it can and will get a lot worse before the winter of 2024-2025 is over, but until it gets here let's enjoy this pleasant run of beautiful fall weather we are enjoying.

The average October high temperature in Owatonna is 57. Now that's the average across the entire month, so things obviously trend cooler on in late October than they do early in the month, but you get the idea -- 57 for an average high.

The average high temps for this week are well above average. Today 67, Tuesday 72, Wednesday 76, Thursday 83, and Friday 84. Enjoy!
