The Most Filmed Location in South Dakota
South Dakota's wide open plains and unique features make it a picturesque and sometimes cinematic state. Dances With Wolves and Nomadland are a few films that showcased the Rushmore State.
But what is the most-filmed location in South Dakota? Wall Drug? No. Badlands National Park? Nope. It's got to be Mitchell's Corn Palace, right? It's the worlds only palace made of corn after all! Sorry. Not even close. It's Mount Rushmore National Memorial near Keystone.
To come to this conclusion, the travel and leisure folks at HawaiianIslands pulled data from ImbD using location filming filters and found that Mount Rushmore is the most filmed location in South Dakota.
The most famous films featuring Mount Rushmore would have to be National Treasure: Book of Secrets released in theaters in 2007 starring Nicolas Cage. Another famous film that featured Mount Rushmore is 1959s Alfred Hitchcock thriller North By Northwest. There has also been a handful of disaster movies that feature South Dakota's greatest monument destroyed by Armageddon-like forces such as Category 7: The End of the World, and 10.5: Apocalypse.
North Dakota's is the Badlands while Iowa's most filmed location is the University of Iowa.
