South Dakota Man Says Police Harrassed Him for Taking Photos
A man is accusing the Brandon Police Department of harassment after a November incident involving taking photos in a public place.
According to a report by Atlanta Black Star, Travis Duffy, who runs the YouTube channel Last Call Heroes BBQ, said he was sending Snapchat messages to friends from inside his vehicle in the parking lot at the Kwik Star in Brandon and might have 'inadvertently' photographed a woman who was also at the store.
Later, Duffy says three officers from the Brandon Police Department came to his home in response to a complaint about the alleged photographs.
When asked by authorities about the incident, Duffy claims he asked the officers if he had broken the law by taking the pictures and was told that he had not because it was a public place. The police did look through Duffy's phone to see if he had taken any inappropriate photos of the woman or of a 6-year-old girl who was also at the store.
After the officers departed, Duffy says he called the Brandon Police Department to complain and was told that the officers' response was justified.
He says he is still upset about the incident.
“I was basically accused by the Brandon PD, bullied in my front yard in front of all my neighbors that I was a pedophile taking pictures of kids at a gas station.”
