A massive amount of seafood bound for holiday tables in Minnesota never made it to the North Star State.

According to ABC News, part of a shipment of 40,000 oysters, as well as lobster worth $400,000, and a load of crab meat were stolen in separate incidents within weeks of each other in New England.

The first incident occurred the weekend before Thanksgiving in Falmouth, Maine, where authorities reported that someone stole 14 cages containing oysters worth $20,000 from an aquaculture site in Casco Bay.

Two other thefts were reported in December, 160 miles away, in Taunton, Massachusetts. The first involved a load of crab from a logistics warehouse; the second, a heist of lobster meat destined for Costco stores in Illinois and Minnesota, was carried out by a fraudulent trucking company, according to the broker who arranged the pickup. The crime involved a spoofed email address, a modified name on the side of the truck, and counterfeit certified driver’s licenses.

Authorities speculate that the stolen seafood likely ended up in local restaurants, given its short shelf life.
