Early Friday morning (November 28), the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning for parts of southeast South Dakota, parts of Iowa, and Minnesota. This Winter Storm Warning includes the cities of Sioux Falls, Yankton, Vermilion, and Sioux City, IA. The warning is in effect from noon Friday through midnight Saturday.

The NWS says, "The majority of southeast South Dakota will receive 4 to 7 inches of snowfall today through Saturday. Heavier amounts of 5 to 12 inches are expected further east and southeast in southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa, and northeast Nebraska. Some locations in northwest Iowa, especially southeast of Sioux City, Le Mars, and Spencer, could exceed a foot of snowfall. A light glaze of ice from freezing drizzle on Friday afternoon and night is also expected near the Missouri River Valley and US Highway 20. After periods of moderate to heavy snowfall today, Saturday snowfall should be lighter, but possibly also blowing and drifting."

For Sioux Falls, the snow is expected to start after 12 PM Friday and continue through Saturday evening, with five to eight inches possible in town.

Travel could be very difficult while the snow is falling, especially late Friday afternoon and evening.
