In addition to get-togethers and grilling, Labor Day weekend is packed with plenty of stuff to do in Sioux Falls. From family-friendly activities to Sioux Falls high school football and free concerts, you won't run out of things to do.
We are in the last days of summer in Sioux Falls as we work our way towards Labor Day weekend 2025. The official end of summer is September 22; well, to get specific, the autumnal equinox is at 1:19 PM on September 22. That's when summer is totally, officially, completely over.
But, outside the world of calendars, Labor Day weekend is the end of summer. After this weekend, it's all downhill to the end of the year. The holidays get revved up: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and everything in between. Or as I like to call it, Candy Season.

Kick Off Labor Day with Football in Sioux Falls
Labor Day Weekend is the start of football season. Lots of college football teams will be on the gridiron Saturday. Including Sioux Falls' hometown favorites.
Friday night, August 29, 2025, is the start of the South Dakota high School Football Season.
- The Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders travel to Rapid City to take on Rapid City Central.
- The Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers will be in Watertown
- The Sioux Falls Lincoln Patriots and Sioux Falls Washington Warriors will open their season at home, playing at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
- Lincoln takes on Rapid City Stevens, kick-off is 5:00 PM
- Washington goes up against Brandon Valley at 7:30 PM
- Sioux Falls Christian Chargers will be at West Central, kick-off at 7:00 PM
- O'Gorman Knights will be in Harrisburg to take on the Tigers, kick-off 6:00 PM
South Dakota College Football also gets underway.
- The University of Sioux Falls Cougars will be at Black Hills State on Thursday night.
- The Augustana Vikings will take on Missouri Western at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, with kickoff at 1:00 PM. Listen to Augie live on KXRB Radio and KXRB.com.

Free Live Music at Levitt at the Falls
It's not just football this Labor Day weekend. Downtown Sioux Falls has plenty of FREE live music at Levitt at the Falls. There will be awesome free concerts starting at 7:00 PM in the Levitt Shell, plus food trucks and more fun on site.
- Thursday, August 28 – Talking Dreads with Jamaican-born singer David Byrne. Their sound is a high-octane mix of roots reggae, ska, and romantic reggae. Opening act: Steel Groove
- Friday, August 29 – Headlining is The Ocean Blue, bringing classics from their three and a half decades as a band. Opening act: The Times’ Four
- Saturday, August 30 – The Empire Strikes Brass playing New Orleans-inspired funk tunes infused with elements of rock and jam.” Opening act: The Parker Experience.

Is hanging out at the baseball park more your thing? The Sioux Falls Canneries have a Labor Day weeken homestand VS. the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.
- 7:05 PM Friday, 5:35 PM Saturday, 4:05 PM Sunday, 11:05 AM Monday at the Birdcage, 1101 N. West Avenue.
- Saturday night is College Night
- Labor Day Monday is Fan Appreciation Day
Celebrate in Small Town South Dakota
If you're looking for a fun small town festival, check out Wagner, SD, 125th Labor Day Celebration, Friday, August 29-Monday, September 1.
- Among all the activities planned, there's the queen announcement on Friday.
- Saturday features the Road Race at 8:00 AM, the Kiddie Parade at 10:00 AM, a carnival Midway on Main Street, and the Rodeo at 7:00.
- Sunday includes the Festival in the Park at the City Park, Kids Money Sand Pile, and Figure 8 races.
- Monday is the Fireman’s Water Fights
Lifelight Festival: Faith, Music, and Family Fun
Sunday is the annual Lifelight Music Festival at Nelson Park (330 S. Fairfax Avenue) in Sioux Falls.
