Connecting with people who understand your experience can make all the difference when navigating grief, loss, or mental health struggles. On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the Sioux Falls community will come together at Levitt at the Falls for the annual Out of the Darkness Walk.

Organized through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the event offers a compassionate environment where participants walk side-by-side to fight stigma and bring hope out of the darkness and into the open. The gathering features opening remarks, resource sharing, and honor beads that recognize personal journeys of loss, struggle, and support. There will be several vendors at this year's walk, sharing information on their organization's, along with a food truck serving corn dogs.

Activities begin at 11:30 AM at the Levitt Band Shell, followed by the walk program at 1:00 PM. The event is completely free to attend, though walk team creation and individual fundraising is what helps AFSP make an impact all year long throughout South Dakota.

Whether you walk to remember a loved one, support a friend, or take a step for your own mental wellness, the Sioux Falls event ensures no one in our community has to walk alone.
