We've all driven on Main Street. We've all motored down Elm Street and Oak Street.

We've all traveled on the 'number' streets and avenues and boulevards. There are plenty of common names in the villages. towns and cities across the nation. But if you've crisscrossed South Dakota, have you ever landed on Goose Pass Road?

Well, if you've been to Pierre, maybe you have. It's one of the seven strangest street names in the Mt. Rushmore State, at least according to our friends at OnlyInYourState.com.

Now, I have to admit I've lived in the great state of South Dakota for almost a half-century, but I don't think I've ever traversed Lonely Boy Place. But maybe you have.

The seven include Kno Place in Rapid City. Gee, I lived in Rapid City for fifteen years and don't recall that particular street. I may have to go back and check it out.

Then there's Lonely Boy Place in Deadwood. You'd think with all the fun that goes on in Deadwood no one would be lonely, but there it is.

And apparently, Hot Springs is filled with Brooks streets. Mow, Brooks by itself might not be strange, but they have Brook Drive, Cold Brook Avenue, Cold Brook Circle, Cold Brook Street, Hot Brook Canyon Road, and Sunny Brooke Road. Whew!

And oh yes, Sioux Falls is included in the 'Strangest Street Names In South Dakota'.

Ever been on Mom's Street? How about Ladyslipper Circle?

You can check out the entire list here and see if you agree. And maybe you know a strange street name that missed the list.

What Did South Dakota's License Plate Look Like the Year You Were Born?

The first number on a South Dakota license plate is the county that the car is registered. For example, Pennington county where Rapid City is has a '2' starting its plates. In Sioux Falls you have either a '1' or a '44' depending on your relationship to 57th street.

When established in 1956 (and revised in 1987) the first nine counties were ordered by population. Starting with 10 they are in alphabetical order through Ziebach, with Oglala Lakota County (65) and Todd (67) rounding out the list.

Today the top 10 plate numbers and populations don't correlate anymore. 1 and 2 are still 1 and 2, but Lincoln (44) is now 3rd in population. Beadle is 4 but it's now 11th in population. See the list by population here.

On January 1, 2023, South Dakota started issuing a new license plate design for license plates.

So, let's take a look back at what South Dakota license plates looked like over the last 100 years.
