Minnesotans love their hot dish. Heck, even if you don't, you sort of feel obligated to speak highly of it because it is so deeply-rooted in Minnesota's food culture.

The tater-tot hot dish (or TTHD, so some call it) is about as hearty and warm as it comes when you're looking for a filling food on a frigid day.

What's also kind of fun about it is that there really aren't too many rules. The only rules for TTHD are that you need tater tots and that it's served hot. From there, it is up to you. Many add ground beef, their favorite veggies, and whatever else might sound good that day.

Following in this deep Minnesota tradition, a new donut shop in Duluth has a donut on its menu that speaks to the hot dish lovers out there.

Among those 5 signature donuts on the menu is a Hot Dish Donut. Now, let me warn you, it is a savory donut. I know that messes with some people. Most expect donuts to be on the sweeter side of the food spectrum. Not this one. That doesn't mean it isn't good, though!

The donut itself is described as a "potato and cheese donut", with a potato dough being what this creation is constructed on. The donut (like the rest of the donuts at Voyageur Donuts) has a delicious, soft texture.

On top of the donut is a generous coating of cream cheese that's topped with bits of bacon, chive, and sour cream & onion potato chips.

It tastes like a Minnesota State Fair creation, and I mean that in the best way possible. While it might bend your mind that it isn't really sweet (there's a hint of sweetness in the donut), the flavors all come together nicely into a savory treat I'd certainly have again!

I'll just say this - if you're curious about this unique donut, give it a try! The other signature donuts are also quite good, and their coffee is top-notch, too!
