An extraordinary first full day of Spring heat event sent temperatures soaring to historic levels across South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, Sioux Falls hit a stunning 89°F, surpassing any March temperature ever recorded in the city's history.

Sioux City, Iowa, climbed even higher, reaching a scorching 95°F, also an all-time March record for that city.

Rapid City set a record by hitting +85 on Saturday breaking the previous daily record of +84 set in 1910.

Across the broader tri-state region, numerous weather stations logged temperatures that shattered long-standing monthly records, signaling just how unusual this late-season warm-up truly was.

To put it in perspective, Sioux Falls averages a high of just 44°F in March. Saturday's reading came in more than 45 degrees above that mark.
