Have You Been to the Clearest Lake in South Dakota?
No, South Dakota isn't the home to 10,000 lakes, but we do have over 580 of them. Now granted, some of them are more beautiful than others, but in any case, we have plenty of fun places to splash, camp, swim, boat & fish.
Travel publication Only in Your State/South Dakota made a discovery that came as news to their writer - -but many South Dakotans already know. That revelation is that Sylvan Lake is the clearest lake in South Dakota.
Sylvan is just one of five beautiful lakes in gorgeous Custer Park and like the park, it is home to a plethora of wildlife too. Its usually tranquil nature lends itself nicely to canoeing, kayaking, and swimming.
According to Wikipedia, this remarkably clear body of water was featured in the Disney film National Treasure: Book of Secrets. The film made it appear like the lake was right behind Mount Rushmore. But it is actually 5 miles southwest of the national monument.
It's nice to know that we are just a day trip away from one of the most beautiful spots on the planet!
