Harrisburg Parents Warned About Contagious Respiratory Disease
Back-to-school time can also mean back to the medicine cabinet or even a doctor visit thanks to some nasty bacterial infections that are out there.
According to Dakota News Now Harrisburg parents got an email on Saturday from the Harrisburg School District alerting them that their children may have been exposed to whooping cough.
The email recommended that parents keep their children away from school if they have "a cough or health conditions that could be worsened by a cough". Parents were also advised to make sure their children's vaccinations were up to date.
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease that causes uncontrollable coughing, vomiting, fatigue, and more and can last for weeks or even months.
The email didn't mention how many cases of confirmed whooping cough have been diagnosed in Harrisburg.
