Boy, if this is true, the average South Dakotan really needs to get up off their tuchus right away, run around the block and do a few sit-ups.

There's a new study out by the folks at LiveSportsonTV.com that says the average South Dakotan for all intents and purposes is allergic to exercise.

It appears we have an aversion to breaking a sweat here in the Rushmore State. The findings revealed that it's been 148 days since the average South Dakotan has exercised properly.

So what is the definition of proper exercise for adults?

According to physical fitness experts, it's 150 minutes of moderate to intense activity in the form of cardio or weight training activity per week.

Quick, when was the last time you came close to achieving that total in a given week?

LiveSportsonTV.com surveyed 3,024 adults during its study, only to find out that most of us don't like to break a sweat all that often.

When asked, “When’s the last time you played a sport that made you break a sweat?The average South Dakotan said it was 148 days ago (compared to a national average of 98 days). That’s over four months since they last huffed and puffed on a field, court, or trail.Follow Us on Nextdoor As you might imagine, those numbers vary quite a bit from state to state. Heck, the average South Dakotan is an Olympic athlete compared to our counterparts up in North Dakota. The average North Dakotan hasn't broken out in a sweat in 188 days!

Conversely, you can't keep the average Colorado resident out of a gym evidently. They're constantly wiping sweat from their brows, especially when compared to us South Dakotans. The typical Colorado resident participates in a rigorous workout routine once every 19 days.

So, what's the most common excuse people like to give for not exercising on a regular basis?

Most of us say say we'd participate more often in sports and exercise if we had a friend or group of friends to join us. The second most heard excuse was lack of free time, followed by shortage of workout facilities near us.

Here's something else you might find interesting, when it comes down to viewing or doing sports and exercise, only 14% of us South Dakotans said they would prefer to play sports over watching it on TV or in person.

That little nugget of info is sure to make almost every gym teacher and personal trainer wince.
