The Christmas spirit was alive and well in the Sioux Empire on Wednesday night.

Faith Temple Church, located on West 33rd Street in Sioux Falls held a kid's Christmas gift giveaway on Wednesday evening (December 18). Area families were able to stop by throughout the night to pick up free toys and action figures for their kiddos.

Faith Temple has a long-standing reputation here in the Sioux Falls area for helping to provide food to area families in need, but as we all know, during the holiday season, food isn't the only thing families need.

Dakota News Now reports that the toy giveaway took place at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds, and the level of participation appeared to be great. As you can see from the picture above, the lines to get into the event were rather long.

Josh Hayes, assistant director of operations for Faith Temple Operations told Dakota News Now, “We saw that there was a need in the community, not only for food, with what we are used to, but also for toys. There are a lot of great programs in town but they fill up fast. And we know that for people in crisis, toys are sometimes the last thing on their mind, so we want to help the community with this gift."

According to Dakota News Now, Wednesday's act of kindness was very much appreciated as nearly 2,000 toys were handed out to Sioux Empire families in need of a little extra something to put under their trees this Christmas as they attempt to navigate a difficult season in life.
