A Sioux Falls restaurant known for its famous bar-b-que is now in need of a new famous sign.

The big red sign out in front of Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que at 2700 South Minnesota Avenue received more than just a minor boo-boo early Wednesday morning after a car driven by a Sioux Falls man smashed into the sign, resulting in more than $1,000 in damages.

The incident occurred early Wednesday (December 7) right around 5:00 AM. Dakota News Now reports that officers patrolling the area of 34th Street and Minnesota Avenue noticed smoke emanating from a location that appeared to be near Famous Dave's restaurant.

Once police arrived they discovered a vehicle had crashed into the sign and was in the process of attempting to leave the scene. Police witnessed the driver rocking the car back and forth trying to free it from the wreckage.

According to Dakota News Now, as officers approached the vehicle, it sped away and could be seen driving across all lanes of traffic, it almost hit another car, and ultimately crash into a wall.

Immediately after the second accident, the driver of the vehicle finally began to cooperate with police.

The suspect, 52-year-old Mark Campbell of Sioux Falls told authorities he was having a medical emergency. Paramedics were called to the accident to evaluate the suspect. It was later determined that he had no medical complications or injuries resulting from the series of crashes.

Police told Dakota News Now they do not believe alcohol or drugs had an influence on Campbell's ability to drive.

Campbell was arrested and charged with aggravated alluding, hit-and-run, and deckless driving. He was also ticketed for not driving in the correct lane.
