Everything You Need to Know About Downtown Sioux Falls Riverfest
Downtown Riverfest has been refreshed, revamped, and revitalized! But what does that mean for everyone attending this Saturday, September 20? It means a lot of entertainment, a tighter focus on the health of the Big Sioux River, great food, and tons of family-friendly activities.
Riverfest will be going on from 2 to 8 PM at Cherapa Place, on the east bank of the Big Sioux River between Sixth and Eighth streets. Parking is available in the downtown ramps and metered parking nearby.

Not only is this a huge community festival, but it is also meant to highlight environmental initiatives and draw attention to the river and its health. This year, in addition to the Riverfest celebration, there will be a river cleanup from 10 AM to 12 PM, again, to draw attention to the importance of efforts to spruce up the river. You can also learn about conservation, recycling, and how you can make a difference as an individual.
Of course, there will be lots of live entertainment, vendors, a Kids Zone, and lots of interactive activities for all ages. The festival will be held entirely on the Cherapa side of the Big Sioux Riverwalk/River Greenway Amphitheater. The food vendors will be in the Cherapa parking lot next to the Arc of Dreams.
Live music has always been a huge part of Riverfest, and this year is no different. Great local musicians, The Teels and Jamie Lynn & the Trio, will kick off the music part of the festival, and The Po' Ramblin' Boys will be headlining this year. Plus, the second stage will feature The Brassholes.
Here are the scheduled times for each band:
Main stage music lineup
- Jamie Lynn & The Trio, 3 to 4 p.m.
- The Teels, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
- Headliners: The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, 6 p.m.
Secondary stage
- The Brassholes, 2, 4, and 5:30 p.m.

Additionally, there will be rock climbing (for 18 & older) at Cherapa One with Sylvan Rocks and a community mural painting going on in the Cherapa Parking ramp tunnel.
Arrive early for good parking and to be part of the river cleanup project. Remember to wear comfy shoes and bring a blanket or chair, as seating may be limited. Leashed, well-behaved pets can also be a part of Riverfest. And remember to be considerate of your fellow Riverfest friends and neighbors.
