While the number of new cases of COVID-19 in the state has continued to stay down, there was, unfortunately, more loss of life due to the pandemic.

The South Dakota Department of Health announced there were two more people have passed away from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. That brings the total death toll to 13 in the state.

Statewide 60 people tested positive for COVID-19 bringing that total number of diagnoses to 2,373. Active cases fell by 42 to 868 and 7 new hospitalizations occurred since yesterday.

Of the 221 test results that have come back, 161 of those were negative.

83 percent of the new cases were from the Sioux Falls area. Minnehaha County has 45 new cases while Lincoln County had 5. Those two counties make up an astonishing 89 percent of all cases in the state.

Minnehaha County is the most populated at 193,134 and Lincoln County has 61,128 making up 28 percent of the state population.  That's Meanwhile the other three most populous counties, Pennington, Brown, and Brookings, makeup 21 percent of the state population but only account for only 2.4 percent of the cases.
