It's a South Dakota classic that has been serving customers since it was founded as a gas station cafe in 1949. According to Dakota News Now, this Brookings eatery is the oldest full-service restaurant in Brookings.

Famous for its namesake Pheasant Salad Sandwich, the Pheasant Restaurant and Lounge in Brookings recently won another major honor. It was one of six restaurants across the country to be given the James Beard Foundation's 2024 America's Classics Award.

This amazing honor is given to locally owned restaurants with "timeless appeal, quality food, and character within their communities". The Pheasant Restaurant and Lounge has been family-owned and operated for three generations according to Dakota News Now.

James Beard Foundation awards are often referred to as the "Oscars" of the food world which lets you know just how extraordinary this honor is.
