If you've been thinking about getting a pet, now is the perfect time to finally decide to do it with the Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event going on at the Sioux Falls Humane Society.

Now through October 15th, the Bissell Foundation (yes, the vacuum cleaner people) is helping to sponsor a reduced adoption event at the Sioux Falls shelter and 390 other shelters nationwide.

Ryan Kruse with the Sioux Falls Humane Society told Dakota News Now, that people looking to adopt a pet can stop into the shelter through the 15th fill out an adoption form, and take home a furry friend at a reduced fee.

According to Kruse, the shelter has a lot of pets on hand at the moment, especially cats. Since the first week of October, the Humane Society has taken in nearly 200 animals.

140 of those pets are available to go to forever homes right now. The folks at the Humane Society are hoping the community rises to the occasion and decides to come on in during this Fall adoption event to help them find homes for all these precious little critters.

The community support has been phenomenal so far this year, as the Sioux Falls Humane Society has adopted out nearly 3400 pets since the beginning of the year. They are hoping to improve upon that number during the Empty the Shelter event.

Dakota News Now reports that the Bissell Foundation typically helps to sponsor about four of these adoption events each year. The last one was held in July and was a huge success.

Here are the special adoption fees during the event:

  • $50 adult dogs (6 Months+)
  • $25 senior dogs (6 Years+)
  • $50 kittens (5-11 Months)
  • $25 adult cats (1 year+)

Some exclusions do apply.

You can see a list of all the pets available right now and get more info, by contacting the Sioux Falls Humane Society at 605-338-4441.
