This is the kind of question that separates casual shoppers from tactical warehouse operatives. Is it correct to drive forward into or back into that Costco parking spot?

On one hand, backing in signals confidence. You’re telling the world, “I have a plan. I’ve seen the future, and it involves a 48-pack of paper towels.”

On the other hand, you’re also holding up six cars, a wandering lady with a cart, and a man eating a hot dog like it’s a competitive sport.

Let’s consider the pros.

  • Backing in gives you a clean, heroic exit.
  • When you emerge with a cart the size of a small yacht, you can load up and glide out smoothly, like a parking lot ninja.
  • No awkward reversing while Karen in an SUV judges your life choices.
  • It’s efficient, elegant, and mildly impressive.

Now the cons.

  • Costco parking lots are not for the faint of heart. They are gladiator arenas with turn signals.
  • Attempting to back in during peak hours is basically announcing, “Everyone, please watch me attempt geometry under pressure.”
  • There will be honking.
  • There will be sighing.
  • There may be a child asking their parent why you’re like this.

So, should you do it?

You do you! Remember: the real victory is making it out with your $1.50 Hot Dog and a little bit of dignity.
