Did You Know You Can Take An At-Home Flu Test?
Most of us who have had COVID-19 are quite well aware of the at-home test for that stupid virus. But who knew you could also test for the flu at home? Not me, anyway.
Multiple health sources are calling this flu season one of the worst in decades. Dakota News Now is reporting that flu tests are available at most pharmacies and on Amazon.
A Sanford pediatrician who was interviewed by Dakota News Now indicated that the tests are very similar to the COVID tests people have taken before.
You swab your nose for 10 seconds and then wait for 15 minutes to half an hour for the test to develop. If you swab too early, you could get a false negative. So you may need to take additional tests.
There is still time to get your flu and COVID vaccines, but if you do contract the flu, and it is caught early, there are medications that can help you get over it sooner.
Health officials encourage best avoidance practices like:
- Washing your hands
- If you don't feel well, stay home, there's no need to spread it around
- Stay hydrated
- Eat a balanced diet
- Get plenty of rest
- If you have to go out in public and you're ill, wear a mask
If you've been suffering from high fevers for several days and are having trouble breathing you should seek medical help as soon as possible
