Sioux Falls Dog Owners Warned of Suspected Poisonous Treat Threat
Is someone throwing alleged poisonous dog treats in people's yards in the Sioux Falls area?
That's what many concerned citizens throughout eastern Sioux Falls and parts of Tea have been reporting for several months now on various social media platforms, even though law enforcement and Animal Control officials have yet to be able to substantiate any of the claims made.
Dakota News Now reports that these allegations stem all the way back to last summer. Numerous people claim that strangers have been whistling to dogs, trying to give them treats, that allegedly contain poison.

Most of the reports have come from people in eastern Sioux Falls and central Tea neighborhoods. There have even been claims that some dogs required veterinarian care after eating alleged tainted treats.
Dakota News Now says they've reached out to multiple veterinarian clinics throughout Sioux Falls and none of the clinics have reported any animals displaying symptoms consistent with poisoning.
Sgt. Brian Crosby, with the Tea Police Department, told Dakota News Now, that they did receive such a report, and that they take these allegations very seriously. They will investigate and charge anyone to the fullest extent who is responsible for attempting to endanger an animal should the claims be proven valid.
What can concerned dog owners do, if there is someone out there trying to willfully poison our pets?
First and foremost, pay attention to your surroundings when your dogs are outside. Inspect your yard, both, front and back before letting your pet(s) outside.
Should you spot a random treat in your yard, or see someone suspicious in your neighborhood, contact law enforcement officials immediately.
It's also a very good idea to never let your pet take a treat from someone you don't know.
If you ever find any mystery dog treats on your property, you can report those incidents here.
