Discover Small-Town Flavors During The ‘605 Burger Battle’
It seems like you can't walk down the block anymore without tripping over some sort of burger or sandwich battle.
These food competitions are all the rage at the moment in the Sioux Empire. I see even some smaller South Dakota communities outside of Sioux Falls are getting into the culinary competition now.

What's the latest delicious showdown?
The 2nd Annual 605 Rural Burger Battle, where small-town South Dakota restaurants are proving that big flavor doesn’t need a big city ZIP code. According to Dakota News Now, communities like Baltic, Chester, Crooks, Dell Rapids, Trent, and Renner are once again putting their tastiest creations on display and inviting hungry road-trippers to crown the champ.
This year’s competition features 10 restaurants serving up a variety of classic crowd-pleasing creations. We’re talking burgers topped with sriracha heat, peanut-butter-and-jelly sweetness, and plenty of combinations in between. Basically, if your taste buds like adventure, this is your kind of road trip.
Voting is easy, too. Each location has a QR code you can scan to cast your vote for your favorite burger. So yes, you can officially say you’re performing your “civic duty” while eating your third burger of the afternoon.
Beyond the buns and beef, this event is a tasty excuse to explore some of the coolest little cities that surround Sioux Falls. These communities may be small, but they’re big on personality, hospitality, and seriously good food.

The restaurants competing this year for best burger bragging rights include: Safari Bar and Grill, Baltic Corner, Hef’s Bar and Grill, PINZ, Lucky Ladz, Someday Cafe, Prohibition Pub, Steve’s Bar and Grill, Wooden Nickel, and Norby’s Bar and Grill.
You’ve still got about a week and a half to map out your own individual burger battle plan before the competition wraps up at the end of February. So grab your friends, loosen that belt a couple of notches, and hit those South Dakota highways in search of the best rural burger in the 605.
