24 Hours on 8th Street: A Look at Homelessness in Sioux Falls

A film crew hit the streets of Sioux Falls for 24 hours with a simple but difficult question: What would happen if someone experiencing homelessness arrived in Sioux Falls with nowhere to go?

What began as a 24-hour project became a year-long journey into the realities of homelessness in our community.

Over the past year, the filmmakers have spoken with service providers, advocates, experts, community leaders, and most importantly, people whose lives have been directly impacted by homelessness.

Along the way, they uncovered gaps, discovered challenges, witnessed compassion, and found incredible resilience.

The result is “24 Hours on 8th Street,” a documentary that explores homelessness in Sioux Falls while highlighting the people working every day to help their neighbors find stability, dignity and a way forward.

The filmmakers say the documentary isn't about assigning blame or claiming to have all the answers.

Instead, it's about asking difficult questions, challenging assumptions and recognizing the people already making a difference in the community.

The documentary will be shown at the Sioux Falls State Theatre on two nights, with proceeds benefiting local organizations.
