The World Series is underway in baseball. And the 2016 match-up is a good one, with the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians. Both teams trying to end a long drought on world championships. Actually the two longest in the majors.

Chicago Cubs fans can be proud of the fact that their team was the first in major league baseball to go to three straight World Series. And they won two of them.

The problem is, after the 1907 and 1908 titles, they haven't won one since. They haven't even made it to the World Series since World War II had just ended a month prior.

Do you notice when you associate their last trip to the big series with WWII, it seems a little more shocking than just saying the year 1945?

Well, it's not as shocking as looking at some things that became new to our world since the last time the Cubs won the World Series.

Ten Things That Have Happened Since The Chicago Cubs Won A World Series:

  1. Two World Wars
  2. Owning a car became common
  3. Airplanes became common in the sky
  4. Both radio and TV were invented
  5. Cell phones
  6. Visiting outer space including walking on the moon
  7. The Super Bowl was started. Actually the NFL itself got started as did the NBA and NHL
  8. Sliced bread was invented (We've all said, "It's been around since sliced bread." Well, the Cubs winning the World Series hasn't!)
  9. The Titanic was built, set sail, sank and was rediscovered.
  10. The famous Cubs announcer Harry Caray was born and died.

Bonus Thought:

The last time the Cubs were even in the World Series, it was 1945. So the last time a World Series game was played at Wrigley Field, you could buy a new house for $4600 and a new car for $1000
